Silver State got his biggest win to date in Saturday's $1 million Oaklawn H. (G2) to run his winning streak to five straight and push his career earnings over $1 million.

Silver State was consigned by Eaton Sales for his breeder Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings LLC to the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling sale, where he brought a winning bid of $450,000 from Winchell Thoroughbreds.

Silver State, in post 1 with Rafael Santana, Jr., was away from the gate cleanly and allowed to settle off the pace as the field entered the first turn. After a half-mile pace of :47.06 set by Warrior's Charge, Silver State was some six lengths from the front. With a wall of horses in front of him as the field hit the top of the stretch, Santana took Silver State five-wide for clear running. He forged to the front with a sixteenth to go and hit the wire a half-length in front of Fearless in 1:49.56 for the 1 1/8-miles on a fast track.

“He is a horse that the Hortons and Winchells purchased on Dr. (David) Lambert’s advice that has continued to develop and get better,” winning trainer Steve Asmussen said. “We’ve always loved his talent level. But for the five-race win streak and putting it all together against such a talented field today in a significant race, we’re extremely pleased with him.”

Asmussen said a Grade 1 is in the 4-year-old's future, but was non-committal on a specific race.

With Saturday's victory, Silver State has now earned $1,230,094 and sports a record of 6-2-1 in 10 starts for Winchell and co-owner Willis Horton, who was celebrating his birthday on Saturday as well. His current winning streak began in and October allowance at Keeneland, followed by a Churchill allowance a month later. This year at Oaklawn, he won both the Fifth Season S. and Essex H. before Saturday's marquee victory.
